Wheaton North Wins Best Four Track Meet, WW South Third

The Falcons won convincingly at home with 237 points, while the Tigers took third with 137.

The Wheaton North Falcons boys track and field team confidently won the 28th Annual Best Four meet on home turf in windy conditions Saturday, beating Lake Park 237 to 202, with the Wheaton-Warrenville South Tigers finishing third, the Daily Herald reports.

According to the paper, defending Class 3A long-jump champion Zach Gordon, of Wheaton North, placed second in the long jump and also won the 100-yard and 200-yard dashes; South pole-vaulter Anthony Dohse also finished strong in competition indoors.

“All of our top guys are returning from last year, [when] we took 11th in the state,” Gordon told NCTV17 in the above report. “And I think we’re getting faster.”

"Track, we've been told by our coach, really is a team sport," Falcons senior Micaiah Steele told the Daily Herald. "When you get out there you run your race, but in the end it's a team sport and you really do have to dig deep to find that inner strength to come out here."
