Wheaton Co-op Boys Gymnasts Prepped to Defend State Title

The team cruised to victory at last Wednesday's sectional meet to advance to the IHSA state finals, which they won last year.

With a dominant victory at last Wednesday's Wheaton-Warrenville South sectional tournament, the Wheaton co-op boys gymnastics team is now preparing to defend last year's state title at this weekend's IHSA state finals, the Daily Herald reports.

According to the paper, Wheaton put up 161 points on Wednesday, outdistancing Glenbard West, second with 141.75, with Wheaton buoyed by the all-around top trio of Ethan Sansone (55.3), David MacDonald (55.25) and Danny Heller (49.1), with additional points coming from Austin Peabody and Qarin Johnnic.

"There's a lot of training and hard work behind the scenes that goes on for us to go every year," Sansone, a junior, told the paper.. "We all love gymnastics and competing and being a part of Wheaton co-op's legacy.

"We're just going out and doing what we need to do and it's always good to have high scores to help the team."

The IHSA State Finals are being held at Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort from May 10-11.
