WATCH: Wheaton Junior’s ‘World Record’ 3-Pointer Video Goes Viral

Wheaton Academy junior Josh Ruggles hits a ridiculous 135 three-point shots in five minutes in a video that has one columnist calling him "the best shooter in the history of the world."

Josh Ruggles’ three-point shooting skill has already achieved plenty of state recognition, as the Wheaton Academy junior guard won both the Class 3A three-point shooting contest and the IHSA Three Point Showdown "King of the Hill" back in March.

Now the nation is starting to pay attention too, thanks to the above video showing Ruggles draining 135 three-pointers out of 147 shots in just five minutes, which the video’s description claims beats the world five-minute record for buckets from beyond the arc for both men and women.

According to the description, Ruggles was inspired by a video of Michigan player Nik Stauskas, has been in a one-upmanship rivalry with St. John’s player Max Hooper and performed his latest feet to usurp the WNBA’s Laurie Koehn, who had previously sank 132 three-pointers in the five-minute time frame.

“After a week of workouts, Josh decided to attempt to beat the World Record on August 8, 2013,” the description says. “To do so, he moved to his home court at Wheaton Academy. In five minutes, Josh Ruggles connected on 135 three pointers, setting the World Record regardless of gender and shooting 92 percent in the process.”

Sportswriters have taken notice.

“Josh Ruggles is a Class of 2015 prospect whom I had never heard of until somebody this morning forwarded me a YouTube video of him shooting jumpers,” CBS columnist Gary Parrish gushed. “Now I know him as the best shooter in the history of the world. Or something like that.”

“I would advise teams that he’s playing against this year not to let him get open,” wrote Steve Peloquin dryly at ESPN 1420.

“Unreal,” offered Connor Muldowney at RantSports. “Watch out for the name Josh Ruggles because he could become a household name in a couple of years.”
