Wheaton North High School quarterback John Peltz will continue his family's tradition of competing in Thunder athletics at Wheaton College as a quarterback and third baseman next year.
Peltz signed with Wheaton College on Thursday, relieved to officially know where he'll play next year.
"I'm just, overall, excited to finally get the decision out of the way... It's kind of a big relief. I'm really excited to play baseball and football (there)," he said.
Peltz will play under his uncle, head coach Mike Swider and his dad, defensive line coach Jeffrey Peltz, and he'll reunite with his cousin, freshman inside linebacker Mike Swider, who played with Peltz at Wheaton North. His other cousin, junior tailback Justin Swider, also played at Wheaton North.
"I'm sure he's (his dad) wanted me to come there since I was born, and I get to play with my cousin again."
Peltz said he visited North Dakota and had offers from other schools, but has always kind of known he'd go to Wheaton College.
"(I've been going to games there) since I could walk," he said.
Head coach Mike Swider told Patch during the 2012 season that he "recruits heavily" from the Wheaton area and the DuPage Valley Conference (DVC), one of the best and most competitive football conferences in Illinois.
In addition to his two cousins, Peltz will join fellow North grads, including sophomore quarterback Reece Butler, freshman defensive lineman Jack Nussbaum, freshman offensive lineman Christian Hollinger, junior tight-end Hunter Thorson, freshman wide receiver Micah Penn and junior defensive tackle Sam Weatherred.
"It's good that we're... keeping the family tradition going. It'll be great," he said.
