Naperville Woman's One-Handed Catch Prevents Bat from Hitting Baby at White Sox Game
The baby was sitting behind Eileen Depesa of Naperville when a loose bat went flying into the stands, according to media reports.
A one-handed catch by a Naperville woman prevented a loose bat from hitting a baby at a White Sox game at U.S. Cellular Field on Memorial Day, according to the Naperville Sun.
Eileen Depesa, who works for Freedman Anselmo Lindberg in Naperville, caught the bat as it was mid-flight headed toward a child in the stands, according to the article.
Tyler Flowers' bat went flying down the third-place line before bouncing off the White Sox dugout and into the stands, according to Yahoo Sports. Despasa was in the front stands when she was able to reach up with her right hand and catch the bat.
Flowers signed the bat, which Despasa was able to keep, but the Naperville resident told MLB.com she didn't do it for the glory or memorabilia but instead to protect the "baby seated behind me."
