High School football starts this weekend, kicking off with the annual showdown between in Glen Ellyn Saturday afternoon.

Wheaton North will play in Bartlett and St. Francis will play in Riverside Friday night.

The Chicago Tribune reported earlier this month Wheaton Warrenville South, 10-4 in 2011, is a favorite this season in the DuPage Valley Conference (DVC), with its history and personnel.

The Tigers in 2011 shared the DVC title with Wheaton North and made it to the Class 7A state title game for the third consecutive season.

While the team no longer has running back Dan Vitale, now at Northwestern, the Tigers could win their third state title in four years, according to the Tribune.

CSN Chicago reported the new quarterback for the Tigers will be Ryan Graham, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior is the nephew of former Wheaton North star Kent Graham. The Tigers lost Casey Paraday of Arkansas, who decided to return home after training with the team this summer, according to CSN.

And wide receiver Corey Davis, brother of Titus, who now plays at Central Michigan, is a "major" Division 1 recruit, according to the Tribune.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Wheaton North ranks No. 14 in the Sun-Times' preseason "Super 25."

The Falcons graduated all five starters on their offensive line and two top reserves after its 8-3 season. But quarterback John Peltz, a 6-foot-2, 205-pounder who threw 2,030 yards and 19 touchdowns last season and ran for 366 yards and eight scores, will return, according to the Sun-Times.

Peltz told the Sun-Times having Patrick Sharp as his runner "calms your nerves... A quarterback's best friend is the defense and his running back," he said.

MaxPreps (CBS) reported Wednesday the Tigers start the season ranked No. 11 in the state and 271 nationally. The Tigers were third on the site's "Fab 5" preseason rankings and the top team in its Top 10 most consistent football programs list.

The team will have a "big and experienced" offensive line, led by Frank Garcia and Kyle Joice, according to MaxPreps.

Wheaton Warrenville South hosts another rival, Maine South, Aug. 31. Wheaton North will host Geneva in its second game and St. Francis will host Vernon Hills.
