Fast Facts: Amazingly, this will be the fifth meeting this season between the DVC rivals, and this is for the Wheaton Warrenville South Sectional championship. The winner will advance to the state tournament at Hoffman Estates High School on Friday at 5 p.m. to meet the winner of the Whitney Young Sectional final between St. Patrick and Payton. Wheaton Warrenville South has had several legendary seasons in racking up six state championships, but this group is threatening to be one of the best. Sitting at 38-0 after receiving a scare from Downers Grove North in the sectional semifinals, the Tigers are ranked No. 1 in the nation by ESPNrise.com. Callaway is headed to volleyball powerhouse Penn State in the fall, and Jaeschke (Loyola) and Nussbaum (NYU) are Division I recruits as well. WWS lost the first set to DGN in the semifinals, the first time the Tigers had even lost a game since March 24, showing their dominance this season. Four of the Tigers' 38 wins came at the expense of Glenbard East, who rolled over a solid Benet team, 25-10, 25-12, in the semifinals. Farrell, Ploke and Shenkin provide the Rams with a solid front line to try to combat the huge front of Wheaton South. For the Rams, the four previous losses to WWS mean nothing now. A win here would knock off the nation's best team and send Glenbard East to state for the first time since 2008 and just the third time in program history. The Rams won a state trophy in 2006, finishing third. By contrast, Wheaton South has won six state titles. No other program has won more than one.
