Cantigny to Host Tour Academy Junior Golf Camps

Cantigny is the only participating Chicagoland location, and one of 27 locations nationwide to host the PGA TOUR Academy Junior Golf Camp.

Cantigny Golf announced Thursday that it was chosen as one of 27 locations nationwide—and the only participating location in Chicagoland—to host the 2011 summer PGA TOUR Academy Junior Golf Camps.

Week-long Half Day and Full Day camps (Mon-Fri) begin in June for golfers ages eight to 16. All skill levels are welcome, and each camp will have a maximum of 24 students. Rich Dukelow, Cantigny PGA Teaching Professional, will serve as lead instructor.

“We’re excited about this partnership with the TOUR Academies,” said Connie DeMattia, Cantigny Golf director of instruction and camp director. “It’s another example of Cantigny’s ongoing dedication to providing excellence in learning for all Chicago- area junior golfers.”

The Full Day camps are designed for boys and girls ages 9 to 16. Camp dates are Jun. 13-17, Jul. 18-22 and Aug. 1-5.

Full Day camp begins each morning with golfers rotating through skill stations devoted to putting, chipping, bunker play and full swing. Lunch is then provided on-site, followed by 9 holes of golf accompanied by TOUR Academy instructors. The on-course session will include instruction on course management, club and shot selection, rules and etiquette.

Unique to Cantigny, Full Day campers will also receive insights into achieving a strong mental approach to the game of golf from Michael Riggs, M.Ed. Sports Psychology.

The Half Day camps, for boys and girls ages 8 to 13, will be Jun. 20-24 and Jul. 11-15.

All campers will receive a complimentary package with a student workbook (tips, rules and pages for instructor notes) and sponsor gifts including a dozen Bridgestone golf balls, a Bridgestone cap and an OGIO backpack.
