Boys Baseball: St. Francis Vies for Sectional Title

The St. Francis boys baseball team defeats Ridgewood Wednesday in the Class 3A sectional semifinal game.

The St. Francis baseball team managed to clinch the Class 3A sectional semifinal Wednesday, with a 6-5 victory over Ridgewood.

Spartans hitter LT Hicks had a sacrifice fly driving in KC Zimmerman. Tom Ameche had a single in the bottom of the fourth Tom Ameche, Jack Roback had an infield hit and Ryan Acciavatti had an RBI double. The Rebels couldn't follow through on a center field relay which allowed Roback to score and Acciavatti to move to third. Eric Stout drove in PJ Preusser, and a ball got past a fielder allowing Joel Birch to score, giving the Spartans a 6-1 advantage mid-game.

The Spartans were able to maintain their lead as the Rebels stormed back scoring four times. A throw by Scott Purdom stopped a potential tying run at home plate for the Spartans.

Stout ended up with the win and Roback the save.

The Spartans (24-12) play in the sectional championship game at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jun. 4.
