District 200 to Discuss, Re-Open Hubble Bid Process Monday

District 200 board members will meet Monday to re-open the bidding process for the old Hubble school site.

District 200 board members will meet Monday to re-open the bid process to sell the old Hubble school property after receiving no bids in the first attempt.

District 200 sent out 28 requested bid packets after the board passed a resolution to sell the property through a sealed bid process Feb. 16. Although no bids were received under the original terms and conditions, interested parties continue to express their desire to acquire the property, according to a press release from District 200 Thursday.

On February 16, 2011, the District 200 board passed a resolution by a 7-0 vote to sell the old Hubble property through the sealed bid process for a minimum of $10 million.

"Despite today's news that no buyers are willing to purchase the Old Hubble Middle School for a minimum of $10 million, the Park District's offer to purchase the property for fair market value still stands," Park Board President Ray Morrill wrote in a press release Thursday. "We intend to continue to work with School District 200 to come up with a responsible solution that balances quality of life with smart development so we can preserve the outdoor fields and gyms, which support nearly 100,000 user hours in recreational activities that local families and residents enjoy each year."

The special meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the School Services Center, 130 Park Avenue, Wheaton.
