Whiz Kids: Presidential Scholarship Recipients

Three Wheaton students earn scholarships to North Central College.

Three Wheaton residents have earned Presidential Scholarships to North Central College in Naperville.

Presidential Scholars from Wheaton who will begin their studies at North Central College in September include (student name, high school, area of study):

  • Martyna Lach, Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, radiation therapy
  • James Maher, Wheaton North High School, computer science
  • Molly Reese, Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, psychology

Since 1978, North Central College has offered the Presidential Scholarship to academically talented and highly motivated students. The Presidential Scholarship is the top merit-based scholarship offered to students. Each year, Presidential Scholars make up less than 15 percent of the incoming class.

Presidential Scholars thrive at North Central and go on to be leaders in the classroom, athletics, music, theatre and a wide range of campus organizations and activities. After graduating, Presidential Scholars continue to excel, going on as Fulbright Fellowship recipients, gaining admission into highly rated medical and law schools or serving in the Peace Corps.

The Presidential Scholarship is based on a combination of a student’s high school grade-point average from core academic classes and ACT/SAT test scores and is renewable for up to four years.
