Wheaton Warrenville Teacher in Running for Grammy Foundation's Music Educator Award

Teacher Gordon Krauspe is among 14 teachers in Illinois being considered for the first ever Music Educator Award.

A Wheaton Warrenville South teacher is among the quarterfinalists nominated for the first ever Music Educator Awards sponsored by The Recording Industry and GRAMMY Foundation.

Gordon Krauspe, a music educator at the high school, was among the 14 teachers in Illinois to make it to the quarterfinals. In addition, locally, Stephanie Skizas, a teacher at Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, is also among the teachers being considered for the award.

The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators who have made significant contributions to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools, according to a news release from the GRAMMY Foundation.

A total of 217 quarterfinalists from 195 cities across the country were announced. The semifinalists will be announced in August.

Every year, one recipient be selected from 10 finalists each year will be recognized for his or her impact on students' lives, according to the foundation. The winner will be flown to Los Angeles to accept the award, attend the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, and receive a $10,000 honorarium. The nine finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium, and the schools of all 10 finalists also will receive matching grants.
