Wheaton Warrenville South, Wheaton North Make List of Best Illinois High Schools

U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of top high schools in the nation this week.

Written by Emily Stone and Jennifer Fisher.

Both high schools serving Wheaton ranked among the top 50 in the state on a U.S. News & World Report list released this week.

Wheaton Warrenville South High School came in 37th, followed by Wheaton North High School at 39th.

The methodology, which was unchanged since last year, looks at three main factors to decide a school’s ranking: whether students are performing better than statistically expected for the average student in the state; whether disadvantaged students are performing better in math and reading than the state average for their peers; and the school’s “college-readiness” performance, based on AP or International Baccalaureate test data.

In Illinois, the Prairie State Achievement Examination is used to gauge student performance to determine the ranking.
