This Week's Senior: Adam Deeke

Adam Deeke is a Wheaton North senior. He loves playing Soccer and Volleyball and being in the Jazz Band.

Adam Deeke is a senior at Wheaton North. Throughout his high school career, Adam participated in the Jazz Band, National Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. He was also on the Soccer and Volleyball teams. He enjoyed volunteering at the Falcon Fest marching band competition every year. Adam works at the Wheaton Public Library as a circulation assistant. He is currently deciding between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Adam plans on majoring in biology as a pre-med student.

Wheaton Patch: Why did you choose these colleges?

Adam Deeke: Both universities are in the Big Ten and are large schools. Illinois is close enough to home so I could come home for a weekend yet it’s still far enough away. U of I has been a big school in my family and I already know so much about it. Indiana has a great campus and everybody I know that goes there, including my brother, loves it!

Patch: What is your favorite memory from this year?

Patch: What is your favorite memory from all of high school?

Deeke: My favorite high school memory is probably spending so much time talking with Coach Lilly. He really helped me out all four years when it came to discussing college. We also had some of the most random conversations about the most bizarre things.

Patch: What is the best thing about being a senior?

Deeke: The best thing for me about being a senior is having vouchers for first semester finals and not having to take all finals second semester. I know many of the teachers so they don't really care what we do and everything is a lot more laid back.

Patch: What will you miss about high school?

Deeke: I'm going to miss seeing all of my friends, some of whom I've been going to school with since kindergarten, and all the great people at Wheaton North.

Patch: What will you not miss about high school?

Deeke: Starting school at 7:20 in the morning and only having 20 minutes to eat lunch.

Patch: What are your summer plans

Deeke: This summer I am going on a trip to Florida and up to my family's lakehouse on the weekends. I hope to spend a lot of time with friends and really enjoy my last summer before college. My family is also planning to go on vacation somewhere but we aren't exactly sure where at the moment.

Patch: What is your favorite activity/club/sport you participate in?

Deeke: My favorite activity at Wheaton North was definitely volleyball. All the guys who played were always so much fun to be around and we always had a good time even though we lost a lot. We always managed to have some type of fun even if we were having a hard practice. The pasta dinners that we had this year were also so much better than other years.

Patch: What is your advice for the next senior class?

Deeke: I would say that the best advice is to have as much fun as you can because it’s the last chance you have to truly act like a kid before you go to college. All of next year’s seniors should go to all the dances and go to all the fun school activities because you don't want to regret how you spent your last year in high school.

Patch: Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

Deeke: Ten years from now I see myself as a doctor specializing in surgery; medicine is such an interesting field with many opportunities. I hope to be living happily in this area and enjoying everything the Chicago area has to offer.

Patch: What will you miss about Wheaton?

Deeke: The biggest thing I will miss about Wheaton is all the great people that live here. I have grown up here basically my whole life and I have known many nice people for years. I will also miss some of the great food places in the area! Giordano’s pizza, Smokehouse, the Popcorn Shop, and Cozymel's are just a couple of great places to eat.

Patch: “When I get home, the first thing I will do is...”

Deeke: Have some homemade cooking. Eating dorm food will get boring so some good food made by my mom will be a special treat.

Patch: What song will remind you of senior year?

Deeke: The song that will remind me most about senior year is “The Show Goes On” because it was part of our volleyball warm-up and I think it a really good song.

Patch: Favorite Wheaton Hang-out?

Deeke: A great Wheaton hang-out is the Popcorn Shop and the pool. The Northside sledding hill is also so much fun when there is snow on the ground.

Patch: Favorite lunch item?

Deeke: My favorite lunch item is a Jimmy Johns sandwich

Patch: Favorite class you’ve taken?

Deeke: My favorite class was AP Government with Mr. McEvilly. Mr. McEvilly always made the best comments about everything which made it a lot of fun. The people in the class and the group projects we worked on were so much fun.

Patch: How do you plan on keeping in touch with your high school friends?

Deeke: I will keep in touch with my friends online and obviously seeing the ones that I go to college with.

Patch: What is your goal for the end of the year? What do you hope to accomplish before graduation?

Deeke: The goal that I have for the end of the year is to have fun but still stay focused. It’s really important to have fun during your senior year and still focusing on getting good scores on the AP tests.
