St. Francis Senior Named to IHSA All-State Academic Team

St. Francis student Alex Alcantara named to All-State Academic Team.

St. Francis High School student Alex Alcantara has been named to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) 2012-13 All-State Academic Team. The 13 male and 13 female honorees of the IHSA's top academic honor were chosen from a group that included over 450 students throughout the state.  

Alex is the first student in the history of St. Francis to receive this award.  As a three sport varsity athlete, Alex has consistently demonstrated leadership both on and off the field.  He has captained both the wrestling and baseball teams.  He was named All-Conference in both football and baseball in 2012 along with a second-place Regional finish in wrestling.

Alex has shown that he is well-rounded in everything he has done in his high school career.  He ranks in the Top 10 of his class of 195, scored a 34 on his ACT and holds a 4.88 GPA on a 4.0 scale.  He is an AP Scholar, Illinois State Scholar and member of the Spanish National Honor Society.  Throughout high school he has also served as a leader on Student Council, as a Eucharistic Minister and as a Student Mentor.

Alex sums up his high school experience this way: “Sports have taught me important lessons about leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and perhaps most importantly, about myself.”
