Patch Whiz Kids: Windy City Warriors

Accomplishment: This group of Whiz Kids placed 8th out of 32 teams nationwide in the varsity division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association tournament last month in Denver, CO.

Key to awesomeness: The Wheaton Park District board of commissioners recently honored the WDSRA team, the Windy City Warriors wheelchair basketball team for ranking 8th in the nation. The Warriors ranked 8th out of 32 teams that competed in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Championship Tournament in Denver, CO April 7-10 after taking their sixth IHSA state title in Peoria in March. 

After defeating the GLASA Wave 40-22 to win their sixth IHSA state title in March, they traveled the weekend of Apr. 7-10 to Denver, CO to compete in the varsity division of the national tournament. They opened play with a win against the Long Island Lightening. They then lost to the eventual national champions, the Nebraska Red Dawgs, and the Utah Jr. Wheeling Jazz by one point and the Rancho Renegades at the end of overtime by one point.
