Accomplishment: This group of Whiz Kids appeared on WGN and won a competition last week.

Key to awesomeness: Last week the Wheaton North Show Choir appeared on WGN’s around town segment that aired 8am CST Friday. The team was chosen for the segment based on their success at the Chicagoland Showcase last year where they won the Festival Division.

This past weekend, the team competed for the second time in the Chicagoland Showcase. The team performed in the Festival Division, a division specific to teams in their first or second year competing. They took the title of Grand Champions and won the division again.

Although the Wheaton North had a show choir for quite some time prior to last year, the team had not been competing. Student and team member Jason Shimmel pointed out that it was the students, not the adults that drove the team to become competitive.

“Show Choir is much more than just singing and dancing,” Sammy Ruggiero, junior, said. “It takes hard work and dedication to put on a show.”

“Show Choir has been around for a long time and Glee has allowed us to perform as part of it without being afraid of being made fun of,” Phillip Triggs, sophomore, said. “Glee allows us to be who we want to be.”
