Accomplishment: This pair of Whiz Kids is collecting money to help aid Japan Relief.

Key to awesomeness: Last Sunday, Sophie Kozee and Tatum Orr first became aware of the disaster in Japan caused by the tsunami. Tatum went over to Sophie’s house and they decided to email Wiesbrook Principal Brian Turyna and ask what they could do to help aid Japan.

The next day the students and the principal decided that they could run Paws for Pennies, a fundraiser that they had run before to aid Haiti, and the money collected would be sent to help Japan.

Last Wednesday, the girls began collecting money by placing bins in each classroom to encourage students to bring in change as donations.

“We went on the intercom and announced that we were collecting money for Japan,” Sophie said.

“We decided we wanted to help Japan, but needed a way to raise money,” Tatum said. “We did chores for change, where we do extra chores at home and our parents give us change for our extra had work. We then take the change we earn and donate it to Japan.”

This Friday the money will be tallied and sent to Japan.
