WSPN/DAVA collaborative program – “Training Leadership Volunteers to Ask for Donations”

How can both volunteer services and fundraising department staff support their organization’s leadership volunteers as they seek donations? Case studies will be featured by several “sample" organizations with varying missions and financial needs.  Panelists will role play a fundraising professional, a volunteer leader and their major donor prospect.  A gift “ask” (including DO’s and DON’Ts!) will be modeled by the panelists for each example.  Following a break, attendees will gather into small groups and participate in role playing as a team, incorporating their own organization’s needs and modeling potential prospects.  Panelists will circulate amongst the small groups to offer tips and suggestions for “closing the deal”.

Moderator: Michael Trench, Executive Director, Will County Community Foundation, Joliet

Panelists:

  • Jim Elliott, Founder/President, Diveheart Foundation, Downers Grove
  • Becky Beilfuss, Executive Director, Teen Parent Connection, Glen Ellyn
  • Tom Beerntsen, Executive Vice President, Association Development, Heritage Group YMCA, Naperville
  • Linda Dean, Director of Volunteerism, YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, Chicago
  • Shauna Berman, Manager of Resident and Volunteer Services, DuPage Convalescent Center, Wheaton
