ESPN to Recognize Wheaton Warrenville South State Champs

ESPN will honor Wheaton Warrenville South varsity boys volleyball team Friday, June 22.

ESPN will honor the Varsity Boys Volleyball team with a national championship trophy and banner to be presented at the school.
This is the first time an Illinois school has been honored in this manner. WWS would like to pack the house and invites all members of the community to join the WWS National Champions on the 22nd at 5pm. According to head coach Bill Schreier, “Let’s show ESPN a taste of what Tiger Nation is all about. Bring as many people as possible and celebrate this historic event.”

The idea of a "National Champion" in high school athletics is preposterous! They should ALWAYS BE a state honor. The seedy underworld of "recruiting" players (having 'John Doe' use his uncle's address to play for school X when he lives in the district for school Z) is bad enough! We don't need some unofficial "national championship" make the whole thing even worse through ESPN's perpetuations so they can make more money by showing games on their networks & boost sales of their high school athletic magazine (it's called "RISE" or something like that). If the Wheaton people are smart.... they'll show to blast ESPN for their money-grubbing exploitation. I know....wishful thinking. That being said, this has ZERO to do with the kids & their accomplishment! Congratulations on an amazing feat. You deserve all the praise in the world....of Illinois.
