Edison Honors and a Busy December in District 200

Edison Middle School is singled out for the Health Education Blue Ribbon Award, and there are a lot of activities coming up this month for kids and parents.

Last week at the 2013 Awards Program for the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD), Edison Health Teacher Cheryl Martines and Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Joanne Panopoulos accepted the Health Education Blue Ribbon School Award for the school. Edison is a three-time recipient of this prestigious honor and was the first middle school in the state of Illinois to receive the award in 2006.

Edison continues to improve curriculum in health and physical education as well as social-emotional health and wellness activities for students and staff. The Health Education Blue Ribbon Award recognizes schools who reflect the high standards established by the Health and Physical Education profession and the Illinois State Board of Education and covers the areas of curriculum, instruction, enrichment, facilities and equipment, finance, medical and safety and administration. The Health Education Blue Ribbon is awarded in collaboration with the Illinois School Health Association.

Network Disruptions Due to Maintenance

Over the past two weekends — Nov. 23-24 and Nov. 29-Dec. 1, the District 200 Department of Technology was conducting scheduled maintenance on district systems. The work was expected to cause interruptions to all district systems, including access to files, Internet, email, voicemail, phones, Synergy, ParentVue, StudentVue, Destiny library. The helpdesk access was limited and/or unavailable. Thank you for your patience while we conduct this important maintenance work.

Community Involvement in Planning Effort

All residents are invited to help chart District 200’s future through a community engagement process.

Through a series of community workshops and other events, community members will have an opportunity to learn about all aspects of District 200, including such areas as student achievement, curriculum, technology, facilities, finances, communications and other topics. More importantly, district residents will be able to provide input and feedback regarding the opportunities and challenges facing the district in these areas. Information gathered from the workshops will serve as the basis for a summary report that will be presented to the Board of Education in June or July. All District 200 residents are invited and encouraged to participate in this engagement process that will help guide the direction of the district in the future.

A group of citizens will be working with District staff over the next few weeks to finalize details regarding the schedule and location of the workshop sessions. The citizen leaders will be using every means of communication available to announce the date, time and location of the first community-wide session tentatively planned for mid-January. In the meantime, however, to make sure you receive a personal invitation you may register your desire to attend the sessions and get on our community engagement contact list by contacting communications@cusd200.org or 630-682-2469.
