District 200 to Host First Community Engagement Session

All community members are encouraged to attend the Jan. 15 session at Monroe Middle School.

Community Unit School District 200 will host the first of six community engagement sessions from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Monroe Middle School, 1855 W. Manchester Road, Wheaton.

District 200 is launching an extensive community engagement program – Engage200. Through a series of community workshops, District 200 will gather data and input to identify community priorities to guide planning for the future of the District. ALL members of the community are invited and encouraged to participate in this engagement process.

While supported by the Board of Education, the program is citizen-led and will have extensive citizen participation. It is vitally important for all members of the community to attend. Only with diverse and informed voices can we develop an effective plan for our District.

It all starts Wednesday evening, Jan. 15, at Monroe Middle School, 1855 Manchester Road, Wheaton. It will be the first in a series of “roll-up-your-sleeves” workshop sessions. Each session will begin with a brief presentation that provides key information about the topic at hand. Participants will then work in small groups to discuss and reach consensus on responses to a short work activity. Each group will then share its conclusions with everyone in attendance. Input received will be documented and available for review on the District website. The first session will kick-off with a “State of the District” presentation by Superintendent Dr. Brian Harris.

Engage 200 co-chairs Liz Corry and Scott Brown are heading up a citizen-led facilitating team that is coordinating, hosting and overseeing the entire community engagement program. Information gathered from the workshops will serve as the basis for a summary report that will be presented to the Board of Education this summer.
