District 200 Hires New Lowell, Hawthorne Elementary School Principals

District 200 Board of Education approves hiring of new principals for Lowell and Hawthorne elementary schools for the 2013-14 school year.

The District 200 Board of Education on Wednesday approved the hiring of two new elementary school principals.

Kathleen Melton will replace Denise DeSalvo when she retires from her post as principal at Lowell Elementary School and Danielle Moran will replace John Patterson when he retires from his post as principal at Hawthorne Elementary School, District 200 announced in a news release. 

Both principals will begin on July 1, 2013 for the 2013-14 school year.

Kathleen Melton is currently the Principal at East View Kindergarten Center in Oswego Community Unit School District 308. She has also served as an elementary and junior high assistant principal before assuming her current position, according to the release. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Francis, a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University and is currently a doctoral candidate at Northern Illinois University. The board approved a starting salary of $115,632 for Melton.

Danielle Moran is currently the Principal at Bristol Grade School in Yorkville Community Unit School District 115. Prior to her current position, she was an assistant elementary principal and a kindergarten teacher in Bensenville. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Augustana College and holds two master’s degrees from Concordia University, and has a strong background in professional learning communities as well as bilingual education, according to the release. The board also approved Moran with a starting salary of $115,632.

District 200 Superintendent Dr. Brian Harris said in a statement he is pleased with the two new principals.

“I am confident that Ms. Melton and Ms. Moran will lead their new respective schools to the best of their ability and continue the tradition of academic excellence that our community expects," he said.
