District 200 Cancels Classes Tuesday, Jan. 28

Bitterly cold and dangerous conditions spark closure for second day.

Community Unit School District 200 is canceling classes and all after-school activities on Tuesday as Wheaton remains under the icy grip of an Arctic cold front.

As it did Sunday when canceling school on Monday, the district cited the extreme cold and wind conditions.

Temperatures never rose above zero on Monday in Wheaton, while winds gusting to 34 mph produced wind chills of nearly -30 degrees, according to AccuWeather. Tuesday’s high is expected to rise to just 2 degrees above zero, with wind chills as low as -15 degrees.
