Verizon Seeks to Open in Former Blockbuster Building

Verizon plans to move from its current location in Danada Square East to the former Blockbuster building.

Verizon plans to open Verizon Wireless store at the former Blockbuster store at 141-147 Danada Square East.

The owner of Danada Square East Shopping Center is requesting to amend their existing Planned Unit Development (PUD) to allow minor changes to the building. Verizon currently has a 900-square-foot store at Danada Square East with a lease that expires Dec. 31, according to a city memo. The new space is 3,630 square feet.

"Verizon would like to expand to a larger space in order to showcase their latest and most modern store concept," according to the memo.

The least is contingent upon the owner's minor changes to the building, including raising the exterior walls.

Wheaton City Council on Monday will vote whether to approve the PUD change for Verizon. Council meets 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 303 Wesley St., Wheaton.
