Wind Chill Advisory in Effect Wednesday Evening, Overnight

A wind chill advisory will take effect Wednesday evening and will remain through 5 a.m. Thursday as temperatures are expected to drop throughout the area.

The advisory will take effect at 6 p.m. Wednesday for DuPage, Will, Kendall, Lake, and Cook counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will fall into the single digits Wednesday afternoon and below zero in the evening. Moderate northwest winds will result in wind chills between 10 to 20 below zero Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

"A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills," according to the National Weather Service. "This will result in first bit and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves."
