Wheaton Votes on Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

While municipalities cannot outright ban medical marijuana under a new state law, they can limit whee dispensaries are located, according to Suburban Life Media.

The Wheaton City Council on Monday voted 6-1 in favor of allowing medical marijuana dispensaries in its M-1 manufacturing districts, according to a Suburban Life Media article.

The Wheaton vote comes as the state moves closer to allowing medical marijuana and municipalities are not allowed to "ban the dispensary sale of medical marijuana," but can, as Wheaton did, limit where the dispensaries can be located, according to the article.

Under the state law, the dispensaries can not be located on residential use property, cannot share the space of a physician and cannot be within 1,000 feet of a daycare or school, according to Suburban Life Media.
