Park District Seeks Focus Group Participants

Wheaton Park District seeks community assistance in strategic planning.

The Wheaton Park District is looking for participants for three focus group sessions to help with its strategic planning.

The focus group meetings will be at the Community Center on the following dates and times:

  • Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm
  • Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm
  • Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm

In a letter to community members, Wheaton Park District Executive Director Mike Benard outlined the following "2013 Input Gathering Plan":

Project Scope

WPD is preparing for its next round of strategic planning. As part of that process it has been recommended that the opinions and recommendations from key internal and external stakeholders be gathered as they play a primary role in the park districts success. These people are similar to subject matter experts and will have some knowledge of the past and current park district scenarios and will be able to think about future possibilities.

Focus Groups

The goal is to have approximately 100-120 people attend the focus group sessions. The focus group attendees will include members from at least the following organizations and interested residents at large:

  • Baseball/Softball
  • Football
  • Cheerleading
  • Soccer
  • Lacrosse
  • Seniors
  • Pre-School
  • Cosley Board
  • Museum Board
  • City Council
  • School Board
  • County Board
  • Forest Preserve Board
  • Lions
  • Rotary
  • Kiwanis
  • Chamber
  • Downtown Business
  • Non Profit Partners
  • Cadence Health - CDH Private Sector Partners

Focus groups will be divided into six small groups of five to seven people each at each meeting. Each group will have its own facilitator—a park district employee or board member—and note taker.

At the focus group meetings, the park district will ask participants the following questions:

  1. What do we do well?
  2. What can we improve upon?
  3. What would you like to see happen in the next 3-5 years?

To participate, RSVP to Donna Siciliano at dsiciliano@wheatonparks.org.
