Wheaton Municipal Candidate Petitions Available Aug. 28

Petitions for candidacy in the 2013 Wheaton municipal election will be available Aug. 28 at City Hall. Two current City Council members have confirmed they will run for re-election.

Petitions for candidacy in the 2013 Wheaton municipal election will be available Tuesday, Aug. 28 in the Office of the City Clerk at , 303 W. Wesley St. in Wheaton, according to a message from the city.

One four-year position for each of the City’s four Districts—North, South, East and West—is up for election (see map).

Terms expire in 2013 for Councilman Tom Mouhelis, East District; Councilman John Rutledge, South District; Councilman Todd Scalzo, West District; and Councilman Phil Suess, North District.

  • Be registered voters of the City of Wheaton and candidates must reside within the corporate limits of the city at least one year next preceding the election; and
  • File Nonpartisan Primary Petitions for Nomination signed by at least 25 registered City of Wheaton voters residing within the corporate limits of each specific district (North, South, East and West) together with a Statement of Candidacy, Loyalty Oath (optional), and a receipt indicating the candidate has filed a Statement of Economic Interest with the DuPage County Clerk.

The filing period for petitions begins Monday, Nov. 19 and ends Monday, Nov. 26. Petitions may be filed at the City Clerk's office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. (Note: City Hall offices are officially closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, 2012.)

A consolidated primary election will be Tuesday, February 26, 2013 if more than four candidates file for each district position.

The consolidated election will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013.
