Wheaton Council to Formally Consider Code Update

The City Council appoints two to commissions, celebrates ties to sister city, is made an honorary member of an Army Unit during the Nov. 18, 2013 meeting.


The City Council on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013,  received a proposed ordinance amending Chapter 78 of the City Code. The changes would make the City’s ordinance coincide with the national standards established by the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. The City Council will formally consider this ordinance at its next meeting.


Residents Appointed to Commissions


The City Council reappointed Donald Westlake to a three-year term on the Band Commission and appointed Robert Gudmundson to a three-year term on the Planning & Zoning Board.

City Marks 40-Year Ties to Sister City


In recognition of Wheaton’s 40-year relationship with sister city Karlskoga, Sweden, Mayor Gresk presented a proclamation to Teri Ash, chair of the Wheaton Sister City Commission. Karlskoga is one of Wheaton’s two sister cities, and the commission’s role is to encourage communication and consciousness between the people of Wheaton and its sister cities.


Army Unit Makes Wheaton Honorary Member


Members of Wheaton’s Community Relations Commission presented the City Council with a proclamation from the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army, which is the City’s adopted battalion. The Army unit named Wheaton an honorary member because of the community’s support. The City’s relationship with this Army unit began when one of its members, a Wheaton resident, was seriously injured in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006. Paul Herbert, Director of the First Division Museum at Cantigny, spoke of the connection of Robert McCormick to the First Division.
