Wheaton Council OKs Earlier Alcohol Sales

Measure will allow sales to begin each day at 7 a.m.

Wheaton residents can buy their booze earlier in the day, thanks to the Wheaton City Council, which gave the go-ahead to allow alcohol sales to begin at 7 a.m. at restaurants, and at grocery and drug stores, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the Tribune, the council action on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 eases restrictions that have been in place since 1985 that allowed restaurants to begin serving alcohol at noon on Sundays and at 11 a.m. the rest of the week. A 9 a.m. start time has been in place for grocery stores.

The Wheaton Liquor Control Commission originally had proposed changing the start times to 8 a.m. for grocery stores and 10 a.m. for restaurants, but the council realigned those times to coincide with hours set in other nearby communities.
