Wheaton Council Approves Liquor License for New Movie Theater

Wheaton City Council approves liquor license for Studio Movie Grill, the combined movie theater and restaurant opening in Wheaton next month.

Wheaton City Council unanimously approved a Class L liquor license Monday for Studio Movie Grill (SMG), a combined movie theater and restaurant opening in town next month.

The city's liquor commission met Thursday to discuss the , a classification City Council approved late last year to accommodate the proposed restaurant/movie theater concept, according to a city memo. After considering possible problem scenarios the business could have, including checking IDs in the dark and making sure patrons close their check before the conclusion of a movie, the liquor commission voted in favor of approving SMG's license request.

According to an SMG press release, the nine-screen, 1,120-seat theater will open in late May. The theater will also include a lounge that will accommodate about 36 people.
