Wheaton City Council to Review Downtown Plan Nov. 11

Planning/urban design consultant Design Workshop will present the final draft plan during a council workshop session.


The Wheaton City Council will meet Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 to review the final draft of the strategic plan and streetscape plan for the city’s downtown, the city announced on its website.


The draft review will occur during the City Council Planning Session at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St.

The city contracted with planning/urban design consultant Design Workshop to create a strategic plan and streetscape plan, which is intended enhance downtown economic development, a City Council goal.


According to the city’s announcement, these plans aim to:

  • Set a vision for the downtown.

  • Outline strategies and policies to implement the plan’s proposals. The strategies and policies would be pursued by the city and the private sector.

  • Outline a downtown streetscape plan that matches the vision.

  • Improve the downtown district’s success.


  • Design Workshop will present its final draft plan to the council on Nov. 11 and solicit feedback. The draft plan is available for review online.


    The city will send out additional information to people who subscribe to the city’s Email Updates. In addition, the city will schedule a public hearing on the final plan. You may subscribe to Email Updates to receive notices once the public hearing date is set.
