Wheaton City Council OKs Small Drop in Property Tax Levy

Council also approves $3.3 million abatement of the debt service tax levy.

Members of the Wheaton City Council voted unanimously Monday to drop the city’s 2013 property tax levy by about a half of a percent, the Daily Herald reports.


According to the Daily Herald, the 2013 levy totals almost $22.2 million — about $15.7 million for general purpose funding and $6.5 million for the city’s debt service.


The total is $100,000 less than the 2012 tax levy.

The $15.7 million general purpose levy includes $9.1 million for the city’s general corporate fund, $3.6 million for the library, $1.2 million for the police pension about $1 million for the fire pension, according to the Daily Herald.

levy, which brings down the overall 2013 property tax levy by the city to $18.9 million, the Daily Herald reports.
