Wheaton City Council Approves Liquor License for Convenience Stores

The Wheaton City Council last week approved an amendment to its Liquor Control Ordinance creating a new license class, according to a city of Wheaton council highlights e-mail.

The Class S License allows convenience stores to sell packaged alcohol, consisting of beer, wine and spirits, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday, according to the council highlights.

The Chicago Tribune reports that before the city council approved the new license during it's March 3 meeting, liquor could only be sold in stores that had over 10,000-square feet, "such as Walgreens and CVS."

There are several convenience stores in Wheaton, including 7-Eleven stores, the DuPage Pantry Plus and Circle K and a proposed Bucky's, which will be about 6,800 square feet, according to the Chicago Tribune.
