Wheaton Building Code Update Could Require Sprinklers

New homes would face requirement if proposed updates are adopted.

Proposed updates to Wheaton’s building code include one provision that could require that sprinklers be installed in new homes, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The updates the city is considering are the 2012 codes from the International Code Council, which sets building code guidelines often adopted at the local and state level, according to the Tribune.

When it announced it was looking at adopting the 2012 Building Codes, the city said Wheaton still is enforcing the 2003 International Code Council building codes.
