Special Garbage Collection This Week for Flood-Damaged Items

Advanced Disposal will have a special collection on your normal garbage day. A makeup day for Monday pickup will be held this Saturday.

If you need to get rid of carpeting and other items damaged in the flood, the city is ready to help you out.

Advanced Disposal, the City of Wheaton's garbage hauler, began picking up flood-damaged materials for residents served by the city’s curbside service on Monday. The special collection will continue all week on residents’ normal collection day.

If you have Monday service and missed the announcement, Advanced Disposal crews will return for any missed flood-damaged materials from their Monday collection routes this Saturday, April 27.

The special collection will be for flood-damaged materials only. Regular garbage still requires the appropriate garbage sticker. Non-flood damaged materials won't be collected without the appropriate sticker.

Place any flood-damaged materials at the curb on your normal collection day. Please separate flood-damaged materials from regular garbage at the curb.

If you have flood-damaged carpeting and carpet padding to dispose of, please cut the carpeting/pads into 4-ft. lengths with a rolled diameter no wider than 18 inches.

Any flood-damaged materials not placed at the curb during the April 22-27 collection period will require standard garbage stickers. Residents and businesses not served by the city’s curbside collection service should contact their waste hauler regarding flood-damaged material pickup.

Wheaton was one of many communities ravaged by the historic flood on April 18. Heavy rainfall led to several impassable roads and closed schools.

Some residents in the Briarcliffe neighborhood also had a scare over the weekend when a retention pond began to leak, threatening a breach and more flooding.
