Mayor to Fill Vacant City Council Seat

Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk will appoint Thor Saline, an unopposed candidate for City Council, to the vacant At-Large seat until the April election.

Wheaton Mayor Michael Gresk next week will recomment the appointment of W. Thoreson Saline to City Council, to fill the vacant seat formerly held by Jeanne Ives, according to a message from the City of Wheaton.

If approved by the Council, Saline will fill the seat until the election and seating of a new At-Large City Councilman in May 2013.

Saline, 215 W. Williston St., is currently an unopposed candidate for the East District City Council position.

Because Saline is running unopposed, Gresk thinks Saline and the City Council would benefit by Saline's appointment, according to the message.

The only contested race in the 2013 election for City Council is in the city's . 

Incumbents John Rutledge and Todd Scalzo are both running unopposed for their seats in the South and West districts, respectively.

Gresk will make the appointment at the Jan. 22 meeting. The consolidated election will be April 9, 2013.
