Wheaton Encourages Residents to Recycle Cooking Oil at Post-Thanksgiving Event

Wheaton residents will have the opportunity to turn their used cooking oil into bio-fuel at a recycling event held the weekend after Thanksgiving, according to a city of Wheaton news release.

The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wheaton public works facility, 821 W. Liberty Drive, and the program is led by SCARCE, School & Community Assistance for Recycling & Composting Education, according to the news release.

Residents should bring their used cooking oil in a milk jug, bucket or the container they bought the oil in. The used oil will be collected and then turned into bio-fuel.

Cooking oil sticks to sewer pipes, causing clogs and breaks that are costly for homeowners and municipalities. Grease can also interfere with water treatment at our sanitary facilities.

Residents will take home their containers following the recycling event, according to the news release.
