Elections: Voter Information

The City of Wheaton provided information on this years elections regarding the candidates, advisory referendum question, voter registration and early voting.

Based upon the number of candidates who filed to run in the municipal election, Wheaton will not need to hold a Primary Election in February. The Consolidated Election will be April 5, 2011.

During this election, registered Wheaton voters can cast their ballots for Mayor of Wheaton, two at-large City Council positions, and weigh in on restoration of the Wheaton Grand Theatre in downtown Wheaton. Here is what you need to know to register to vote, change your current registration, and vote.

The voter registration deadline in order to vote in the April 5 election is March 8, 2011. You can register to vote or update the name or address on your registration at the Finance Counter of Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St., from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please bring two forms of identification, one of which must have the current name and address.

The DuPage Election Commission allows grace period registration and voting March 9-29, but this may only be done at the Election Commission office, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.

Candidates & Referendum Question

Wheaton’s municipal election will determine Wheaton’s Mayor and two at-large Council positions.

In addition, the following Advisory Referendum Question will appear on the ballot:

The City Council seeks to gauge public opinion regarding the possibility of the City’s involvement in the restoration of the theater. It is a non-binding advisory referendum.

Early Voting

Early voting is available March 14-31. Any registered voter may participate in early voting.

The Early Voting site in Wheaton is at the DuPage County Election Commission, 421 N. County Farm Road in the office foyer. Hours at this location are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Election Day

On Election Day, April 5, 2011, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. To find your polling place, check your registration status and more, visit the DuPage County Election Commission’s site at www.dupageelections.com
