East District Candidate Appointed Interim Councilman

Thor Saline will serve as an interim at-large councilman until the April 9 election.

Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk on Monday appointed Thor Saline, an unopposed City Council candidate in the city's East District, to be the interim councilman in the currently vacant at-large seat.

W. Thoreson “Thor” Saline announced in November he is running for the East District seat to replace longtime Councilman Tom Mouhelis who decided not to seek re-election after 12 years in office.

He'll fill State Rep. and former Councilwoman Jeanne Ives' at-large seat after she resigned to allow time for an election of the seat in November before taking her seat in the 42nd state representative district.

Former Councilman and mayoral candidate John Prendiville is running for the at-large seat in the April election. Frank Garcia, a former candidate who was removed from the ballot because he was not registered to vote in Wheaton when he filed, said will run as a write-in candidate.

Saline said Monday he looks forward to serving on the Council, and starting out on what he hopes is a four-year term following the election.
