DuPage Names New Ethics Commission Chairman

DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin names Gerald Cassioppi of Naperville to serve as chairman of the Ethics Commission.

The DuPage County Board recently appointed Gerald Cassioppi of Naperville to serve as chairman of the Ethics Commission.

Chairman Dan Cronin, who has worked to make the Ethics Commission a more visible institution through his DuPage ACT Initiative (Accountability, Consolidation and Transparency), said Cassioppi will provide the leadership necessary to serve on the Commission.

“As we continue our efforts to make DuPage County a model of accountable and transparent government in Illinois, it is essential that we strengthen and enhance the ethics complaint process,” said Cronin. “I am confident in Gerald’s ability to serve as chairman of the Ethics Commission. His background as an attorney and certified public accountant for a variety of non-profit organizations and businesses will serve the County well,” Cronin said in a statement.

The DuPage County Ethics Commission is comprised of five members who meet as a hearing body to review complaints regarding unethical conduct. The Commission works in conjunction with the Investigator General Paul Moreschi, who receives and conducts the initial review of the complaint and who acts as a prosecutor if a hearing is conducted. The Commission also works with the Ethics Officer Barbara Preiner, who provides guidance to the chairman, County Board members and employees regarding interpretation and implementation of the ethics ordinance.

Most recently, the Election Commission and the DuPage Water Commission entered into an agreement with the County to utilize the Ethics Commission for ethical complaints made at the independent agencies. The intergovernmental agreements are a part of Cronin’s ACT Initiative to advance accountability and establish uniform policies among the 24 independent taxing bodies that he oversees.
