Despite Arrest, Council Candidate Stays in the Race

Derek Bromstead said he will continue his candidacy for City Council despite a domestic battery charge.

Derek Bromstead will continue his candidacy for Wheaton's City Council despite his domestic battery charges. He wrote in a statement Friday, "I want to thank all of my friends, supporters, and those closest to our family situation for their overwhelming support throughout these last few difficult weeks. Because my family, and those that are closest to me and my family, have shown this tremendous support and have indicated that they will continue this throughout the campaign, I will be continuing my candidacy for Wheaton City Council."

Bromstead appeared in court Monday for his first formal hearing on the charge for using a belt to strike a relative in the back and upper thigh during a Feb. 1 incident at his home in the 0-100 block of Mitchell Circle.
