Council Candidate Reports Missing Signs

Wheaton City Council candidate Derek Bromstead reported 20 to 30 missing signs Saturday.

Wheaton City Council candidate Derek Bromstead reported missing signs Saturday after receiving multiple calls from supporters saying signs had been taken from their yards.

Bromstead said when he left Genghis Grill late Friday night, the signs seemed to still be in place, but Saturday morning, 20 to 30 had disappeared. Most of the signs taken were the smaller size, with the exception of one big sign at the corner of Roosevelt Road and West Street, which was replaced by another candidate sign.

Council candidate Jeanne Ives said she has also had some of her signs stolen since the first day she put them out, including two large signs from the same home on Harrison Avenue. In both cases, Ives said homeowners reported the thefts to police—the first on Mar. 6 and the second, Mar. 12. She estimated that in addition to the two large signs, approximately 15 small signs have been taken.

"I can't believe this is happening in Wheaton," Bromstead said. "For people to go to this extreme in a non-partisan, municipal election is ridiculous."
