Construction on Sensory Playground, Garden Could Soon be Complete

Construction on a $2.5 million sensory playground and garden near Wheaton got underway last fall, but a brutal winter and wet spring and summer has delayed its completion

If the weather begins to cooperate, the "Play for All Playground" should be completed in the coming months, the newspaper reports. The playground will be located at the Danada South Park near Naperville and Warrenville roads in Wheaton.

The project includes the addition of 1,700 square foot central gathering area, a sound garden, a fragrance garden and a playground with a pony stables theme, according to the Wheaton Park District website.

"The goal of this sensory garden playground is to create an environment where all children can feel comfortable and develop themselves by challenging their bodies and minds," according to the Wheaton Park District website. "This area will include amenities that will encourage different types of physical activity than standard playgrounds."

While many of the features of the park are designed with autistic children in mind, the Play for All Playground will be a place where adults with disabilities can engage with their kids, according to the Daily Herald.
