City Officials: Weather Conditions Could Cause Frozen Pipes, Flooding

Despite warmer temperatures we have experienced recently, the city’s water division encourages you to continue running a small stream of water —about the size of a pencil lead —at one faucet in your home to prevent your water service from freezing.
 
This winter’s prolonged cold temperatures have driven the frost line about 48 inches into the ground under plowed streets and driveways, which can cause underground pipes to freeze.

The Water Division has continued to receive calls regarding frozen water services. The division will issue another notice when the risk of frozen underground pipes has dissipated.
 
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch from late tonight through Thursday afternoon due to the combination of melting snow and predicted rainfall Thursday up to 1.5 inches. Public Works crews have been clearing snow and ice from storm sewers to allow them to function properly.
