The Wheaton City Council meets for a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3 at . The agenda items include:

Consent agenda

Ordinance adding a new section outlining the qualifications, training and education for the city's auxiliary police unit: The Wheaton Chief of will establish, supervise and administer a curriculum and training program for auxiliary officers.

Bid award for snow hauling: City staff will recommend a two-year contract with KLF Excavating for snow hauling services for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 snow seasons. The request for $12,402 is based on an estimate of 156 hours of work at $79.50 per hour.

Approve bond waiver and issue raffle license: Woodcarving club, the North Suburban Carvers, is requesting a raffle license to raise money for the wood show at the DuPage County Fairgrounds Oct. 22-23.

Adopt a resolution authorizing the disposal of surplus property: A 1997 Ford Ranger and a 2001 Chevy Cavalier have been awarded to the Wheaton Police Department. Police officials are requesting approval to sell the Cavalier, worth an estimated $1,350, on eBay. Proceeds will be deposited in the DUI Technology Fund.

Approve a special event permit for the Downtown Wheaton Association Chili Cook-Off: The plans to host the 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Nov. 5. Participating restaurants will include , , , , Austin BBQ, , , , , and .

Approve a request from the Wheaton Park District for prescribed burns: The Wheaton Park District plans to conduct burns in the Lincoln Marsh Natural Area and other small parks beginning the week of Nov. 9 and ending by Dec. 20. Weather conditions will determine the burn dates. Fire officials will be notified of each burn date.

Adopt resolution allowing for construction at 820 Stoddard Avenue

Approve a plat of easement grant for stormwater management at 1010 Sunset Road

Bid award, fuel: Staff will recommend a bid award of $564,540 to purchase fuel from World Fuel/Texor. For the 2011-2012 fiscal year, the city bid 118,000 gallons of lead free gasoline and approximately 37,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

Approve bond waiver and issue raffle license to the Wheaton Park District: The park district is requesting the license to raise funds for the Leisure Center with its Sock Hop event at the Community Center on Friday, Oct. 14.

Regular agenda

Appointments to boards/commissions: Mayor Mike Gresk will appoint the following people to city commissions: Renee Webb, Community Relations Commission; Joseph Tyna, Environmental Improvement Commission; Pat Schwarze and Chris Ellerman, Group Care Home Commission; and Emelie Engling, Historic Commission.

Ordinance granting special use permit for a shopping center and movie theater at Danada Farms East/Rice Lake: Mid-America Asset Management is requesting an amendment to their planned unit development at Rice Lake Square to replace all signage with newer, more consistent signs that match the new architectural style of the center.
