Woman Flees Felony Stop, Charged with Resisting and Obstructing Police

Police said a Chicago woman fled from officers during a stop of a car that had been reported stolen. She was charged after police found her hiding under a car, according to reports.

A Chicago woman faces charges of resisting or obstructing a police officer after she ran during a felony stop in Wheaton Tuesday afternoon related to a car that had been reported stolen, police said.

Police said they stopped a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis around 2:28 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Main Street and Cole Avenue in Wheaton. The car had been reported stolen by Chicago police. While stopped, passenger Crystal Stephens, 24, of Chicago, ran from the scene, police said.

The Grand Marquis, driven by a 58-year-old Villa Park man, had been recovered to the rightful owner and was not updated in the police computer system, police said.

After searching Walgreens and Ace Hardware on Main Street, police found Stephens hiding under a car at Just Tires, 1801 N. Main St.

She was charged with resisting/obstructing a police officer. She did not explain why she ran, police said.
