Wheaton Volleyball Standout’s Killer Gets Life Plus 20 Years

A judge in St. Louis sentences Keith Esters to life plus 20 years in prison for shooting to death St. Francis High School star Megan Boken.

The man convicted of shooting to death St. Francis High School volleyball standout Megan Boken while she was in St. Louis, Mo., in August 2012 has been sentenced life in prison, the Daily Herald reports.


Originally charged with first-degree murder for Boken’s death, Keith Esters, 19, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder, according to the Daily Herald. On Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, a judge in St. Louis sentenced Esters, 19, to a life term and an additional 20 years.


Esters shot Boken to death while trying to steal her cellphone, according to the Daily Herald.

Boken, who was 23 when she died, was a standout play for Wheaton’s St. Francis volleyball team, the Daily Herald reports. She went on to play volleyball at Saint Louis University and had returned there for a job interview and a volleyball reunion when she was murdered.
