The following press release was submitted by the Wheaton Police Department:

The Wheaton Police Department will increase enforcement efforts of Illinois’ safety seat belt laws as part of the statewide “Click It or Ticket” mobilization from May 9, 2014 through May 26, 2014.

The City of Wheaton received grant funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety for this enforcement effort. The goal of the effort is to boost the state’s safety belt use rate and reduce fatalities and serious injuries.

Safety belt use is important for all motor vehicle occupants. Motor vehicle crashes in the U.S. are the leading cause of death for people ages 5 to 24.

Officers during this enforcement period will be operating several “Occupant Protection Enforcement Zones.” Uniformed police officers will be outside of their vehicles at several locations throughout the community as they seek to observe unrestrained drivers and passengers. Violators will be directed to other police officers who will issue citations for the violations.

The Wheaton Police Department wants all drivers to be aware of the additional risks of driving without a seatbelt, which can result in serious injury or death.

It is surprising that even nowadays you see people not wearing seat belts. At the same time, a huge problem in Wheaton is people texting and talking while driving. I know the police are stopping some of them but, I see it so much, especially near Danada!

Max is out of RIGHT field. We put him out there because fewer balls are hit to right field, so he is less of a danger to himself and others.

Nope! I'll ride the pine on this one. "We're from the government and we're here to help."

Speed your tail off we don't care , that's a ticket you may go to court on and waste our time, but You'll just pay the fine for no seat belt.
